History of the Methuen Lodge.

The Methuen Lodge was granted a warrant on the 10th of December 1975. The Lodge was consecrated on the 28th of February 1976. The consecrating officer was RW Bro RAC Forrester, the Provincial Grand Master and he was assisted by the deputy , Lt Col Rev Giles Brocklebank. W Bro R A Cheeseman was the first Master. There were 16 Provincial Officers, 20 Founder Members and 65 visitors present.

The Original Methuen Lodge.

Before Methuen Lodge No 8692 was formed there had been a previous Methuen Lodge meeting in Swindon. Methuen lodge No 914 then 631. This Lodge was consecrated on the 24th of May 1854, the concecrating officer was Daniel Gooch Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Wiltshire. Lord Methuen the Provincial Grand Master of Wiltshire was the first Master of the Lodge. There were 20 founders , a number of them from the Royal Sussex Lodge of Emulation , the Mother Lodge. In 1869, when Sir Daniel Gooch became Provincial Grand Master of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and asked for the Lodge to be moved to that Province. On the 7th of May 1870 at the Orkney Arms, Maidenhead, Daniel Gooch announced that the move had been completed.

The Methuen Lodge No 631 continues to this day. They meet in Marlow, in the Province of Buckinghamshire.
